Η Κοτσώνη Γιώτα είναι υποψήφια Διδάκτωρ του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης με γνωστικό αντικείμενο την διδασκαλία της ξένης γλώσσας σε μαθητές με Μαθησιακές Δυσκολίες και άλλες Ειδικές Εκπαιδευτικές Ανάγκες, ένας τομέας που ελάχιστοι παγκοσμίως ασχολούνται τόσο σε εκπαιδευτικό όσο και ερευνητικό επίπεδο.

Ίδρυσε, διδάσκει και είναι διευθύντρια σπουδών εδώ και 16 χρόνια στο ΚΞΓ Κοτσώνη στα Λαγυνά. Το ενδιαφέρον της για την αποτελεσματική διδασκαλία και μάθηση της ξένης γλώσσας από όλους τους μαθητές και ιδιαίτερα από μαθητές με ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές ανάγκες την ώθησαν σε περαιτέρω σπουδές και την παρακολούθηση δύο Μεταπτυχιακών Προγραμμάτων Σπουδών. Είναι κάτοχος του μεταπτυχιακού διπλώματος Νευρογλωσσολογίας με ειδίκευσης στις «Γλωσσικές Διαταραχές και Εκπαιδευτική Παρέμβαση» του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης και της «Ειδικής Εκπαίδευσης» του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου. Επίσης, έχει μετεκπαίδευση στο School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences στον τομέα «Cognitive Neuroscience Methods» (Μέθοδοι της Γνωστικής Νευροεπιστήμης) στο University of Reading της Αγγλίας.

Τα ερευνητικά της ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στην διδασκαλία της ξένης γλώσσας τόσο σε τυπικούς μαθητές όσο και σε μαθητές με Μαθησιακές Δυσκολίες και άλλες Ειδικές Εκπαιδευτικές Ανάγκες. Ερευνά και δημοσιεύει τα αποτελέσματα των εμπειρικών ερευνών της σε διεθνή συνέδρια στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό. Μέρος των ερευνών της δημοσιεύτηκαν σε παγκόσμια επιστημονικά συνέδρια στη Φλωρεντία, στη Μαδρίτη και στο Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας της Θεσσαλονίκης. Έχει παρευρεθεί σε δεκάδες διεθνή συνέδρια στην Ελλάδα και στο εξωτερικό και παρακολουθήσει σεμινάρια των γνωστότερων ακαδημαικών γλωσσολόγων του κόσμου όπως Michael Long, David Little, Phillip Hubbard.
